GMCP & the vitals bar
Many MUDs send structured data using GMCP alongside the normal text. Veilrunner reads these GMCP messages:
Char.Vitals/Char.Statusfor the vitals bar.Room.Infofor the map. See Map — Early Access.
The vitals bar
When the MUD sends Char.Vitals (or Char.Status), a thin strip appears above the command line. It shows a bar and numbers for:
- HP, mana, moves and stamina
- any other current/maximum pair it finds, such as rage and maxrage
The bars update live and change color as a value drops:
- green above 50%
- amber above 25%
- red at 25% or less
If the MUD sends no vitals, the bar stays hidden. When you disconnect, the bar clears until vitals arrive again.
Turning it off
Settings › Display and Text › Show the vitals bar is on by default.
Limits
- Veilrunner shows at most 8 bars.
- It ignores oversized GMCP messages: over 8 KB or more than 64 values.
- It accepts only plain numbers. A value written with a slash, such as
"hp": "120/300", also works.
Examples
HP 300/300 in green full health
HP 120/300 in amber 40%
HP 50/300 in red under 25%
"rage": 30, "maxrage": 100 shows a Rage bar
no Char.Vitals from the MUD no bar
With VoiceOver, the bar reads as "HP 120/150, Mana …".
