Back up & restore

Back up everything

File › Back Up Everything… (or #backup) saves one .vrfull file. It contains:

  • your characters and everything on them: aliases, triggers, gags, highlights, buttons, variables, lists and chat patterns
  • saved MUDs and open tabs
  • your settings and command history
  • your maps

Passwords are never included. They stay in the Keychain on this Mac. If Veilrunner finds a saved password anywhere else, such as in a variable, an alias or a history line, it leaves it out or replaces it with <password removed>.

Your log folder choices are not included, so pick them again on another Mac. A backup can be at most 100 MB. If yours would be bigger, #backup says so and saves nothing.

Restore everything

File › Restore Everything… (or #restore) opens a file panel. Then:

  1. Veilrunner checks the file first. It must be a Veilrunner full backup, 100 MB or smaller, made by this version or an older one.
  2. It shows what's inside and asks you to confirm.
  3. Before anything is replaced, it saves a safety backup of your current data (Before-Restore_<date>.vrfull). It keeps the 10 newest of these.
  4. Connected tabs disconnect and the restored data is written. If anything fails, your data is left as it was.
  5. An orange bar asks you to quit. Quit and reopen Veilrunner to load the restored data.

Each character keeps the Keychain password it already has on this Mac. On a new Mac, use Edit on each character to add its password.

If the backup contains triggers that send commands, Veilrunner asks first: Restore, Restore Disabled or Cancel.

Export and import one profile

  • File › Export Profile… (⌘⇧E) saves one character's aliases, triggers, buttons and more as JSON.
  • Import Profile… (⌘⌥I) loads one, with Replace All or Merge.

Passwords are never included.

Import TinTin++ scripts

File › Import TinTin Script… (⌘⌥⇧I) or #import {path} merges a .tin file into the current character. It brings in the file's aliases, triggers, gags, highlights, buttons, variables and lists. Files over 20 MB are refused. If the file has triggers that send commands, Veilrunner shows the first five and asks: Import, Import Disabled or Cancel.

Automatic setup copies

When you disconnect or quit, Veilrunner writes a .vrbak copy of the character's setup into a backup folder inside your log folder. It never includes the password.

Examples

#backup choose where to save Veilrunner-Backup_<date>.vrfull
#restore pick a .vrfull, read the summary, Restore or Cancel
#backup before a big #import a point to go back to
#backup, then #restore on another Mac same characters on both
