Veilrunner Help · The session window
Command history
Every command you type is saved for that character. A blank tab keeps its own list. History is still there after you quit and reopen Veilrunner.
- Up to 500 commands are kept per character.
- Repeating the last command doesn't add it again.
↑ / ↓
On an empty command line, ↑ and ↓ step through every earlier command.
Prefix history
Type the start of a command first. Then ↑ steps only through earlier commands that begin with that text, newest first.
- Upper and lower case are ignored, and duplicates are skipped.
- ↓ moves back toward newer matches. One ↓ past the newest match puts back exactly what you typed.
- Esc while stepping also puts back what you typed.
- If you edit a recalled line, the next ↑ searches again using the edited text.
- If nothing starts with your text, ↑ leaves the line alone.
⌃R: search your history
Press ⌃R, or choose Session › Search Command History…. A search box opens above the command line.
- Type part of a command. It can match anywhere in the command, and the newest match is highlighted.
- Press ⌃R again or ↑ for older matches, and ↓ for newer ones.
- Press Enter (or click) to put the match on the command line without sending it. Press Esc or Cancel to close the box.
Privacy
These are never saved to history:
- anything typed while the MUD hides your input, such as at a password prompt
- any line equal to a saved password
History is included in File › Back Up Everything….
Examples
↑ on an empty line previous command
type cast, ↑ newest command starting with "cast"
type cast, ↑, ↑ the next older "cast…" command
type CAST, ↑ same matches; case doesn't matter
type cast, ↑, ↓ back to "cast", exactly as you typed it
type kill, ↑, Esc stop stepping; "kill" is back on the line
type xyz, ↑ no match; the line is unchanged
⌃R, type rat, Enter newest command containing "rat" anywhere
⌃R, then Esc close the search; the line is unchanged
